In the last dozen or so IT conferences from San Francisco to Paris I have focused on giving a message that has many layers.
Number one is the experience. People never forget an experience. This is why I open the presentation by describing what it would be like for you to ski at 135 mph.
Number two is the content. I present a 5C strategy for peak performance in today’s more-faster-now culture. Clarity of Vision, Commitment, Consistency, Confidence and Control. IT professionals love statistics (imagine that…) and I factor in the Dr. Pulos’ research on the conscious and subconscious mind. The metaphor for conscious mind (the ant) and the subconscious mind (the elephant) is outlined in my latest book, The Ant and the Elephant.
Number three (and just as important as the first two) is the motivation. By virtue of drawing the IT people into a story of recreational skier to Olympics puts extraordinary goals within reach. As you can see on the preview DVD, I use a lot of experiential language to bring the audience into the story. This makes the content and the experience sticky.
